Making California Stronger as One

Resolution 215 summary:
Workers are at the center of the Union's decision-making process. And one of the most important decisions workers make is about jurisdiction -- what local union best represents them. In 2006, after hearings about long-term care representation in California, the hearing officers determined that workers of the same industry are "stronger together." When SEIU convention delegates approved the Strength Unity Plan, they set the state for the most meaningful change for strength building among California's long-term care members: The uniting of ALL homecare and nursing home workers of California's three local union into one SEIU Healthcare Long-Term Care Workers' Local union.

Resoltion 215 is calling for a statewide secret ballot  election among all SEIU California long-term care workers to determine whether ALL California long-term care workers should be united in a statewide long-term care local. With a majority approval vote, there will be created one SEIU Healthcare Long-Term Care Workers' Local Union in California.

Resolution 214 summary:
Currently there are more than 250,000 homecare workers in California spread across three different SEIU local unions. The challenges these workers face in the healthcare industry are unique because it is mandated that workers be organized on a county-by-county basis, but the funding is mandated through the state. Homecare workers who do the same work deserve to earn the same wages and benefits and enjoy the same high standards of working conditions regardless of which California county they work in. Winning such standards requires a statewide strategy in which all SEIU California homecare workers speak with one voice and are able to impact the homecare funding mechanism and create statues that provide workers with vacation, sick leave and the traditional rights we have come to achieve at the bargaining table.

Resoltion 214 is calling for a statewide secret ballot election among all SEIU California homecare workers to determine whether ALL California homecare workers should be united in a statewide long-term care local. With a majority approval vote, there will be created one SEIU Healthcare Homecare Workers' Local Union in California.
